1. Galveston
If you want your road trip to be light on the travel and heavy on the culture, look no further than Galveston, which is located less than an hour’s drive away from Houston. Galveston, located right off of the coast of Texas, is known for its island vibe, rich history, exciting culture, and much more. You can find arts and crafts, shopping, festivals, fairs, and all the rest around every bend, and the summer season is the perfect time to visit! Be sure not to miss the Galveston Island Historic Pleasure Pier for a great time for the whole family, and stop by Moody Gardens to see sharks, birds, monkeys and more housed in unique glass pyramids!

You’ve heard of the Alamo, but have you ever been to visit this interesting piece of Texas heritage? One little road trip to gorgeous San Antonio will help you check that item off of your bucket list. San Antonio features a rich and long cultural heritage and unique history unlike any other in Texas. We recommend taking in the San Antonio Riverwalk, where you can walk around the river promenade for miles and enjoy gorgeous views. If theme parks are your thing, you can even visit SeaWorld San Antonio and Six Flags Fiesta Texas!

Are you looking for an easy beach getaway that doesn’t require a passport or airline ticket? A road trip to the beautiful coastal area of Corpus Christi is a fantastic way to enjoy the coast right in your own backyard! The beautiful beach is a perfect destination during the summer. You can enjoy looking at the water and walking along the beach or pop into one of the many local shops or galleries. Check out the Texas State Aquarium for a little bit of education, or visit one of the many museums available.

Although it is a little bit out of the way coming from Houston, Dinosaur Valley State Park is right near Fort Worth, which is a fantastic place to spend a weekend!
